The Luci Ball | The Luci Center Fundraiser | Undulata Farm
As I drove up the long driveway at Undulata Farm on Saturday, my nerves were a little on edge. This was my first real assignment for Lizzie Loo Photography, and I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. But, after meeting up with Elizabeth and stepping inside the arena, I put all my nerves aside and got to work. The Luci Ball is an annual event held to raise money for The Luci Center, a non-profit that provides therapeutic riding and hippotherapy for individuals with disabilities. Elizabeth jumped at the opportunity to shoot the event when Katie Fussenegger asked us if we could. During college she worked in a similar program in Bowling Green that focused on kid's therapy. The Luci Center's mission is to enrich the minds, bodies and spirits of individuals through horse-related activities by offering volunteers and participants a beautiful, peaceful environment where the unique experience of interaction and learning about horses takes place. Simply stated - folks bond with horses by riding and caring for them - all of this helps make their lives better.
After living in Michigan for a few years, this was probably the most gorgeous farm I've ever visited. Everything was perfect, from the floral arrangements by Hazelfield Farm to the chocolate horse favors by CJ's Candies. The evening was gorgeous, despite it raining early in the day. Very casual, very comfortable and fun - one of the prettier charity events to attend and photograph. The guests had time to bid on silent auction items (we auctioned off a horse and rider session we're excited to shoot soon), drink the event's signature drink - the Loosie Goose, snack on some hors d'oeuvres, eat a seated dinner and watch some live auction. The little puppy you see below was donated and auctioned off as well as the diamond that was donated by Prospect Jewelers. We would highly recommend you spend the evening at next year's Luci Ball. The current count of funds raised is over $18,000 and growing. Enjoy!
